Mumble Voice Chat

This guide is from a LAN that has ended, so information might be irrelevant and/or incorrect

Because shouting over a room full of neckbeards will get you nowhere.

Mumble has been chosen as the VoIP client of choice for the event. It's low latency and uses very little resources. We recommend using this throughout the if you want to communicate in game within your Quake 3 team or if telling your idiotic team-mate to stop treating AoE2:HD like Farmville and build some fucking trebuchets.

Installation

Download and install OS and download/install the client.

Configuration

  1. Open Mumble
  2. In the wizard that pops up, click Next and you will be presented with the Device Selection window
  3. Select your microphone and speaker devices in the audio input and output drop-downs
  4. Click next twice to reach the Volume Tuning test
  5. Run the test to make sure you have selected the correct microphone device
  6. Click Next to reach the Voice Activity Detection screen
  7. Select Push To Talk
  8. Choose a Push To Talk shortcut key - thumb mouse buttons, capslock, alt or ctrl are popular choices
    1. Voice activation is not recommended as it will be triggered by everyone else in the room!
  9. Click Next to reach Quality & Notifications
  10. Set audio quality to High
  11. If you wish, disable the text to speech option to stop a robot reading everything typed in chat
  12. Click Next and then Finish

Connecting to the Server

  1. Click the Server menu at the top and then click Connect
  2. Click Add New at the bottom right
  3. Enter these details:
    1. Label: ZPH LAN
    2. Address: mumble
    3. Port: 64738
    4. Username: (your username with no spaces)
    5. Click OK
  4. Select the server you just created in the Favourites list
  5. Click Connect at the bottom right

Once you're connected, you'll see a bunch of rooms. You can move to any room by double clicking it.

You can also connect to our community Mumble server after the LAN has finished. The password is zph - feel free to come on and bring your buddies if you want to play games together <3
