Gameplay

While you wait for the game to install, watch a 15 min tutorial to get the basics, and/or read our mini-guide:

Commanders:

• Every player starts with a commander
• Use your commander to build buildings
• Destroy all enemy commanders to win the game
• Defend your commander and your teammates’ commanders

Resources:

• There are two resources in the game: metal and energy
• At the top of your screen, on your metal and energy bars, you can move the red sliders to change how much you share with your allies
• You can build energy to metal converters, and adjust how much you convert by moving the grey slider on your energy bar
• You can build energy and metal storage, so that when you have excess metal or energy, you store it instead of wasting it

Game start:

• Place your commander near a cluster of metal deposits (bare patches of earth with a white circle and number)
• Use your commander to build:
  • Metal extractors on three metal deposits
  • Two solar generators for some energy
  • A bot lab
• In your bot lab, build three bot constructors
• Build other units and buildings to help you expand to nearby metal deposits and build more metal extractors

Shortcuts:

• Queue up tasks for your units by holding down shift
• Select all units of the same type by double-clicking a unit
• Fan out units by holding right click down and drawing a path with your mouse

Games this event

First, we’ll play a 30 to 45 minute cooperative match where we all play against some easy AI. Then we’ll play a ~1 hour humans vs. humans match.

To make the game fun for new players, we have:

• Made everyone the same faction, so we all have the same unit types
• Only enabled tier 1 land units, and disabled long-range weapons, so you won’t be destroyed from the sea or air, or the other side of the map
• Enabled 10 minutes of no-rush time, so everyone has time to set up their base
